Preaching from the Pews: Golden Fable

Duo Golden Fable aka Tim McIver and Rebecca Palin formed from the ashes of Liverpool/North Wales based cult multi-instrumental group Tim and Sam’s Tim and the Sam Band. Apparently the genisis was an attempt to move on “after a heavy UK wide touring schedule over three years, major festivalappearances, a highly acclaimed album and many radio sessions, the duo decided that it was time for the charming innocence of Tim and Sam to grow up – Golden Fable was born.”

Holing up in a studio in North Wales last year they set about stripping back their intricate instrumental sound to it’s componant parts of atmospheric notes and haunting vocals since then, Golden Fable have been captivating our ears for a few months now. Their debut single “Chill Pt.2” evoked a sense of heart thudding emotion through it’s spacious production made of twitching beats and synth prods was caressed by Rebecca’s longing vocal sighs. You could compare their muted songwriting shifts and widescreen melodies to the work of the xx, but there’s clearly a firmer footing that creates a world that Golden Fable inhabit it’s one they can draw you into if you afford them the time.

Their second single, “Always Golden”, will be released on March 5th it shows a pleasing progression even from their first single intertwined guitar arpeggios of the kind early Sigur Ros were , while Rebecca’s vocals scale new heights in their prominance and emotional clarity: whilst the subtle progression in their sound becomes a enveloping patchwork landscape of carefully crafted musicianship with hints at the folk-tronica of Four Tet. To promote a debut LP which will follow in later in 2012. Free downloads are available from the band’s official site.
