Thanks to a nod at the AIRA Music Awards 2010, Megan Washington‘s music is well known in her native Australia, but her steady velvetine chords have yet to hit a UK audience. That should all change on November 7th, when her new single “Holy Moses” will be released through Mercury Records, to whom Megan has just signed.

Born in Papua New Guinea, at the age of 11 the Washington family upped sticks to Brisbane, Queensland. It was there that Megan – now 25 – began to carve her career, working with and alongside jazz musicians like Sean Foran and her own band Old Man River. More recently Megan’s collaborated with Lanu on his Her 12 Faces album, and she’s currently putting the finishing touches to her I Believe You Liar album which is due out later in the year.

Washington’s music is a carnival of pop and sultry notes, set aside from but not exclusive to her acoustic beginnings. Watch the video for “Holy Moses”, directed by Stephen Lance and Mairi Cameron, below!
