Introducing Canadian collective Slow Down, Molasses, who have just completed a hugely successful debut tour of the UK, which included packed out gigs in Oxford, Cardiff and London. The band weave an intrguing sound that marries warm folk instrumentation with the sighing communal harmonisation of their lead vocalists’. Rather like Stars, Sigur Ros and Tim and Sam’s band before them, their spellbinding peaks and hushed troughs are elegant and endlessly affecting.
Slow Down, Molasses beguiling new album Walk Into The Sea, was released in the UK on 5th Sept. Standouts include the gathering life affirming two minutes of “Sometimes We Fall Apart” – the sound of starring into the sea and wondering what the hell it all means; it swells to wonderful cresendos, built upon spiralls of distortion and mournful horns, and back to quivering introspective strum. While the new free download “Light” has a female vocalist take center stage for a beguilingly wistful, almost Mazzy Star-esque cut, flecked with swirls of delicately balanced orchestration that breaks into a clip clopping beat.
