A brand new release by Spector, who are included in the hot new BBC Sound of 2012 shortlist. Like the other songs by the band, Grey Shirt &Tie didn’t fail to keep me hooked within the first repeat. It’s about a Primark encounter, between Spector’s lead singer and a childhood sweetheart. No wonder the song is packed with heartfelt lyrics, that are sweet like honey. The rather progressive opening takes a huge spin at about 1:30 in, where a clever suspense is planted. Initially I thought it was my Internet connection’s fault, then to come to realise that it was all intentional.
The video for this track is heavily illuminated, but all in a subtle colour tone. Clips of the band playing in front of a great deal of laser beams are interwoven with fragmented scenery ranging from cities to the wilderness. The video goes very well with the song and vice versa. Grey Shirt & Tie will be Spector’s last release for Luv Luv Luv Records and it is available in the 7” format. Keep your eyes peeled for Spector’s debut album in the new year!
