Self-described as “more of a cult and less of a band,” Brooklyn-based Television Overdose, or TVOD are equally as entertaining and lively as they are introspective and candid. In anticipation of their debut full-length album Party Time, out on May 9th via Mothland, TVOD are also releasing the single, ‘Pool House‘ this week and we are debuting the accompanying video below.
Filmed in a “shitty hotel pool,” in New Jersey, the band describes the track as, “1970’s modern American punk band gets dumped at a pool party.”
‘Pool House’ captures the timeless heartache of feeling alone at a party, while showcasing the band’s signature less-is-more approach to grooves, gritty guitar parts, clever use of harmonics, and quirky synthesizer tones, their rawer, heart-on-their-sleeve sound is redolent of early Strokes or LCD Soundsystem. These elements are complemented by mellotron arrangements that enhance its epic chorus. With the earworm hook, “All I wanted was a best friend, someone to show around town,” the track delivers a therapeutic release of frustration and anger, all while grappling with an underlying sadness.
They say of the video: “Shot this video ourselves. The (Patron) was a bad choice in a chlorine pool, but we still really liked shooting this video. Met alot of friends ;).
None of us got hurt in this music video besides Serge! Huge win. We love you jersey.“
Though its title might suggest a straightforward summer banger, the single actually tugs at the heartstrings, telling the story of a romance crumbling under the weight of time. It closes with an astute reel-to-reel ritardando effect, a perfect nod to the songs emotional depth. All the while, TVOD does what they do best; keeping listeners jamming out, even as they sing about heavy subject matter.
Today, TVOD are also announcing a month and a half long European tour, starting with a handful of UK dates and wrapping up in Czech Republic. See full list of dates below:
