‘AntiStar’ is the impish new single from Brighton based band En Heat, due for release via cult London label Blang on 26th March 2025. Today we are debuting the off the wall, accompanying video shot on location in Brighton and the infamous Hotel Pelirocco, the AntiStar lands escapes from his dimension, pursued by assassins ordered to kill the false ‘Disco Messiah’. Local detective, ‘Inspector Bovine‘, becomes suspicious.
AntiStar is a wonky rambunctuous anti-anthem that lurches from impishly yelped vocals and surreal lyrics that channel the messianic urges of a mythical figurehead of a disco religion, producing a tightly indie-disco earworm that propels with groovy bass lines and fuzz box riffing. The track calls to mind oddball post-punk bands such as Art Brut, Warmduscher, Moonlandingz and The Cool Greenhouse, it’s certainly a bit different an earworm that gets accidentally lodged in your cranium with a gently mocking message about the absurd pitfalls of fame, or maybe it’s about not wanting to be famous, you decide?
Band leader and video maker Filthy Pedro explains “We wanted a video that captured the spirit of our live shows, Brighton and the mythology of the AntiStar”.
Directed by Filthy Pedro, assistant Director Peters Simon, Graphic Design and Cover Art by Simon Crosby.
En Heat is something of a south coast super group lead by Filthy Pedro and featuring Killer Stu from alt-indie legends David Cronenberg’s Wife appearing alongside Small Talk Adam of cult bands Fruity Water and Octopuses and keyboard player Oliver Fist. Perfectly at home on the Blang label alongside underground stars such as Jeffrey Lewis, who is releasing his next album via Blang in March 2025.
Following shows with Fat White Family, Warmduscher, Young Knives and Jeffrey Lewis, En Heat can be regularly seen on the Brighton and London circuits. AntiStar was co-produced by Jon Clayton and Filthy Pedro at One Cat Studios in London, mixed and mastered by Jon Clayton.
