The Brian Jonestown Massacre toured the UK in February, and boomerang right back to this island mid-summer. Anton Newcombe and band play Glastonbury Festival on Sunday 29th June, eleven years on from their set on the John Peel stage in 2014. While they’re here, they neatly slot in Edinburgh and Oxford dates.
But before that, there’s new limited edition transparent red 10” BJM single to enjoy next month.
‘Makes Me Great’ is a whimsical song rooted heavily in psychedelic folk rock, the way Newcombe does it best. The B-side offers the up-tempo ‘Out Of Body’, a joyous plunge into an experimental shoegaze ode to the 60s, with multiple experiments conducted on an array of instruments.
On top of that, Parallel, his album recorded with Dot Allison under the All Seeing Dolls moniker came out four weeks ago.

This month is the 20th anniversary of the infamous Dig! documentary about the relationship between BJM and Dandy Warhols way back when, and there’s a special anniversary edition Dig! XX bringing things up to date. Anton shared with God Is In The TV in 2023 his criticism of director Ondi Timoner‘s subjective approach. ‘It should be objective,’ he said of the practise of documentary-making, ‘like David Attenbrough watching a baby seal get eaten by a shark.’
