Take Three: Baby Schillaci

The Soundtrack, the debut album from Swansea alt-rockers Baby Schillaci, drew high praise last year and made KEXP’s end-of-year list, no less. Andrew Gordon invites them to pick three records that unite them.

On the turntable…

Adwaith – Solas

This has been on repeat for us over the last two weeks. So many high points. Beautiful sounds. Amazing production and amazing tunes. Inspiring.

One to watch…

Monet – untitled album (yet to be released)

We had the privilege of an early listen (eight listens). They are evolving and operating in a company of one right now. Melodic, batshit and a musicianship that makes you want to quit playing…and tunes.

An underrated Welsh gem…

Super Furry Animals – Lovekraft

If ELO recorded on the summit of Snowdonia on Ayahuasca, it would sound something like this. I don’t think it gets as much love as the early records but it’s fantastic. The lyric ‘kiss me with apocalypse’ will always be ‘kiss me with apoca-lips’ within my mind cogs.

What’s next for Baby Schillaci?

We’re playing CWRW (29th March), Le Pub (8th May) and Focus Wales (10th May). We are recording our second album. Single out in May. The album is written, ambitious and we are very excited…now, just to solve the funding side of things and not kill each other.
