NEWS: Sea Fever unveil details of second album + drop new single

Formed by members of Johnny Marr’s band, New Order, and Section 25, Sea Fever have been making waves since the release of their debut album, Folding Lines, in 2021. After teasing new material during their live sets throughout 2024, it’s clear that their highly anticipated second album is on the horizon. Today, they’ve dropped a brand-new single alongside exciting details about the upcoming release.

Titled Surface Sound, the album is set for release on Friday 30th May 2025, through Stockport-based indie label Cosmic Glue. Driven by collective resilience, it features ten powerful tracks, including the trippy lead single ‘Loose Cut’, which dropped earlier this month. And luckily for fans, the band haven’t kept us waiting too long for another preview – the latest single, ‘Breaking Out‘, is now available on all streaming platforms.

Tracklist – Breaking Out // Go to Ground // Shouldn’t Have Been This Way // Sincere to Some // Able Eyes // Thrills, Kicks and Lies // Triggers Us // Loose Cut // Truth Dare // Seen As A Lifeline

One of the most immediate tracks on the album, ‘Breaking Out‘ serves as the perfect opening track. A celebration of individuality, defying the norm, and carving your own path, the synth-infused anthem showcases the talents of the entire band. Bursting with energy, its relentless drive perfectly encapsulates the band’s creative journey, weaving together each member’s unique experiences and abilities. A track to be proud of, every element of ‘Breaking Out’ is irresistibly catchy. Elliot Barlow’s driving beat, Phil Cunningham’s quintessential indie guitar, and Tom Chapman’s synth wizardry blend seamlessly, while Iwan Gronow and Beth Cassidy’s smooth vocals grow increasingly urgent as the track progresses. Each layer of the song works in perfect harmony, setting the tone for what’s to come.

Surface Sound will be available in multiple formats, including CD, vinyl, and digital. Special vinyl editions will be accompanied by a bonus 7″ featuring the band’s collaboration with the late Denise Johnson. Speaking about the track, Tom shared that he began working with Denise on it towards the end of 2019, though it remained unfinished after her sad passing in 2020. Returning to the recording after some time, Tom was reminded of Denise’s infectious laugh, her soul, and her spirit. Wanting to share her voice once more, he took it to the band to finish as a tribute to their dearly missed friend.

Remaining tickets for the band’s upcoming live dates in Macclesfield and Leek are on sale here.
