NEWS: Millie Manders and the Shutp share powerful ‘Me Too’ single +’Choose the Bear Tour

Mille Manders and the Shutup have released their new single ‘Me Too,‘ taken from their acclaimed second album Wake Up, Shut Up, Work. The single is the fourth and final to be taken from the album and comes with an acoustic version on the B-side and an intensely powerful and emotional video directed by Ell Bobin. The release comes ahead of the band’s Choose The Bear Tour in the spring, which includes their biggest headline London show to date at Camden Dingwalls and will raise money for Sexual and Domestic Abuse charities along with a new Angry Ted Plushie bear. The bear will be strictly limited to 500 with £6 from each one being donated to The Survivors Trust, Refuge UK and Beyond The Streets with the aim of raising £1000 for each charity.

The video features Ramona from Ramona’s Tea Party, who supported Millie Manders and The Shutup on their headline UK tour in the autumn of last year, alongside members of the audiences on those shows, and includes harrowing statistics regarding the extent of Sexual and Domestic Abuse in the UK.

Fierce jagged riffs and powerful driving percussion cradle this widescreen emotive track as Manders skilfully expresses the dark truth experienced by so many.. Millie’s multifaced vocal range embodies every one of the complex facts of the song. Powerful emotive lyrics speak truth from the heart expressing raw universal truths that are hard to hear, but that need to be said. Manders opens her soul when she sings:
“They grind her down with questions, reliving every little thing
Make her feel like she’s the one on trial – they say that she had tempted him
Said “Asking for it weren’t you, though?”
Our bodies still aren’t ours
If one victim is still blamed
Our bodies still aren’t ours
Until systems change!.

Mille Manders and the Shut Up are doing what punk is supposed to do; calling for righteous societal change where it is needed most. The world needs to hear this track. Manders is telling the story of abuse in and out of the courtroom just like Prima Facie does in the Theatre. It is a vital story that Manders skilfully and bravely expresses with exceptional vocal range and prowess.

Speaking of the video, Millie says:

“Thank you to Ramona’s Tea Party for the excellent acting and for spending hours on set with us, and especially to Ramona for deeply immersing herself in the moment, making us all emotional. And thank you to the literally hundreds of people across our shows who chose to be filmed for this video…Thank you so much for watching and for your support.”

Millie Manders and The Shutup are renowned for their ferocious, joyous and memorable live shows, having graced stages at such notable festivals as Slam Dunk, Bearded Theory, North West Calling, Kendal Calling, Rebellion and Boomtown, and have previously toured with the likes of Less Than Jake and Ferocious Dog.

The band explore themes of loss, betrayal, heartbreak, anxiety, environmental concern and political unrest – all while exuding the punk attitude and prowess that helps set them apart – and have been championed by the likes of the BBC Radio 1 Rock Show, BBC Introducing and Radio X.

Beyond their music, the band’s commitment to sustainability and charity is always evident, prioritising eco-friendly merchandise and raising funds for charitable causes through limited edition artwork and merchandise sales and by donating a percentage of album sales to causes they wholeheartedly support. With this dedication to making a positive impact in the music industry, they continue to be a vital voice in the burgeoning punk scene.
