NEWS: Martyrs announce bold new single ‘Pin Blue Sometime’

Pin Blue Sometime‘ is the bold new track from Martyrs. The second in a series of ten planned single releases, it follows up on the metallic buzzsaw sound of The View From A Memorial
Bench
with an indie rock anthem that bridges the uneasy gap between Arab Strap and Suede. With wild horns and vibrant flamenco guitar flourishes liberally daubed across it, ‘Pin Sometime‘ is a bittersweet, unique beauty.

The song revisits characters who first appeared on their 2024 album Luminism, and explores world of missed opportunities, regret and small town malaise tempered by the vague hope for a brighter future.

Michael says: “This one came about when I was thinking about times in my life when I’d been the barrier to my own happiness, but refused to accept that was the case. I see it in others too. Sometimes we expect the world to change for us rather than changing ourselves, and that’s the hole the narrator of this song finds themselves in. It’s about entitlement, really. The musical elements – the piano, that flamenco guitar, that Robert Fripp sound, it’s like a collage, so vocally I tried to meet that and offer a variety of textures through the song. It’s nice to see characters from our past songs popping up here too. I love a bit of world-building.”

Martyrs are Jon and Michael, originally from Merthyr Tydfil in South Wales, now residing on th Kent coast in England. They first played in a band together when they were just 15 years old an reconvened years later to begin Martyrs. Their 2022 album Un Diavolo In Casa was a lo-fi electronica tribute to Giallo movies while their follow-up, 2024’s Luminism, was a bright an shiny piece of post-yacht, which gained over 100,000 streams and sold out of physical copies.

Their last single, ‘The View From A Memorial Bench‘ found them airplay from over 100 radio stations worldwide, which was a nice surprise considering it sounded like a flight of stairs falling down a flight of stairs.

Proudly DIY in every aspect, Martyrs write, record and release all of their work from the relative safety of their living rooms. Unwilling to be confined by genre and unbound by external
expectations, Jon and Michael shift restlessly in whichever musical direction the mood takes them, the only constant being their innovative and distinctive songwriting and the world they create around it. They draw inspiration from professional wrestling, Dario Argento and cold brew coffee.

Available on all streaming platforms and as a Free Download Bandcamp Exclusive Maxi-single, featuring 2 extra unreleased tracks from the 4th of February.
