Circuit des Yeux, the shape-shifting project of Chicago-based artist Haley Fohr, has announced her highly anticipated album, Halo on the Inside, set for release on March 14th. A bold evolution of Fohr’s sound, it ventures further into uncharted territory, blending hedonistic dancefloor energy with pagan mysticism and sprawling emotional landscapes. The album’s core remains her remarkable four-octave voice, leaping from delicate melodic hooks to elemental wails.
The announcement comes with the release of Halo on the Inside’s lead single, ‘Megaloner’ and its captivating music video. A pulsing wave of electro-infused dark pop, the track offers an early glimpse into the album’s layered narrative. ‘Megaloner’ slinks and staggers, buffeted by a crosswind of inky synth noise and post-punk guitar as it explores the fallout of decisions and the strength required to endure. “Megaloner is an anthem for the place that exists after an action and inside its consequence,” Fohr explains. “Prices are being paid, and hope is our currency.” The accompanying video, below, directed by Dana Trippe captures the track’s central tension as it plunges viewers into an insolating and surreal, yet familiar space.
Produced in collaboration with Andrew Broder (known for work with Bon Iver and Lambchop), Halo On The Inside promises to challenge and enthrall in equal measure. Shaped during an intensely solitary period, Fohr wrote the album at night in her basement studio from 9 PM to 5 AM. These quiet hours became a sanctuary for uninhibited experimentation with unfamiliar tools, finding inspiration in the unpredictable – a process she wryly calls “play and melody through software malfunctions and feedback”. This led to a profound self-discovery, with Fohr uncovering what she describes as a “surprising, small voice deep behind my heart.” Building on this reinvigorated connection to solitude and to herself, she crafted the album over eight months before looking outward. Inspired and infused by the Greek mythological figure Pan—a symbol of transformation and vitality—the album navigates themes of metamorphosis and resilience. “Through the process of making this music, I was able to rewind myself to a time before fear,” Fohr reflects. “And in the absence of fear, I found the intimate beat of sex, love, and melody.”
Circuit des Yeux is currently on the road with Alan Sparhawk, performing across Europe and Australia. This spring, Fohr will embark on her own headlining tour with a full band, culminating in a performance at London’s ICA on May 14th.
