It promises to be a very Happy Valentine’s Day this year. Hailing from York, Liverpool, and beyond, the alternative-rock collective The Illness will release their full-length debut album Macrodosed on the 14th of February.
The album follows two EPs from The Illness. The first, ‘Descending G’ and ‘Phrases Redacted,’ released in 2020 and featuring a collaboration with Steve West and Bob Nastanovich of Silver Jews and Pavement fame drew praise from many sources including this publication and Marc Riley of BBC Radio 6. The second, Summerase, arrived three years later and this time saw The Illness working with the Liverpudlian multi-instrumentalist songwriter, Laura J. Martin and the Mancunian composer, guitarist and multi-instrumentalist dbh amongst many others. It received similar critical acclaim to its predecessor.
Macrodosed is described as “an eclectic but defiantly melodic collection of addictive hooks that pulls from all corners of popular alternative music.” The record is heralded by a single and video release for the album track ‘Speedway Star’ on January 10th, which features lead vocals from the revered American musician David Pajo.
Macrodosed will be released on Friday the 14th of February 2025 via Sea Records as a 12″ Limited edition on submerged blue vinyl. It can be ordered HERE.
