EXCLUSIVE: The Allergies bring the old school groove with their new track ‘Watch What You Say’

The Allergies rewind to the glory days of power-packed P-funk and groove-heavy go-go music, on their uptempo, floor-filling new track ‘Watch What You Say’ that we are debuting below before it’s released tomorrow. It’s lifted from The Allergies new album Freak The Speaker which is out now and features a bunch of old-school legends like Dynamite MC, Ohmega Watts, K.O.G (Kweku of Ghana).

Befitting those all-the-way-live, crowd-rocking genres, this one is a full band affair. With bespoke basslines, cool keys, and live horns backing up an ensemble vocal cast featuring the mighty pipes of Charles Morgan on lead, a rich gospel backing, and even a pitched-up Andy Cooper dotted in for extra funkadelic flavour on the m-i-c.

The boisterous brass, arranged by Pee Wee Ellis, Fred Wesley and The New JB’s collaborator, James Morton, punctuates the track in signature style. While all the beats are respectfully built from choice chunks and chops of samples taken from an anthemic Trouble Funk record – The band that single-handily defined go-go in the early 80s.

It makes for an uproarious blend of retro rhythms and new-school production punchiness, which has always been The Allergies celebrated M.O.  This tasty track drops digitally on November 29th, and is available physically on The Allergies new LP – Freak The Speaker.
