NEWS: Waterpistol make splash with second single ‘Ou Est Ton Ame?’

Waterpistol released their groovy new single ‘Ou Est Ton Ame? On Friday. Recorded last November at Rockfield Studios in Monmouth. It follows their recent appearances at Green Man Festival, Shunk Fest and this year’s FOCUS Wales.

Laced with elements of garage, psych, and the sound of the early 90s it’s a single that demands your attention, reminding me of the swagger of early Primal Scream, the hazy counterbalanced boy/girl melodies, and surfy and chiming riffing redolent of the Sonics underpinned by galloping drums that career into a cacophonous crescendo. It’s a refreshing blast, that shows why fledgling Welsh band Waterpistol hold a ton of promise. Emma from the band says “We were going for a cross-over of ’60s rock n roll elements with ’90s guitars effects. We wanted to incorporate influences such as The Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Mamas and The Papas and Jefferson Airplane. “

We have a duo-fronted line-up (two singers) and try our best to bat against the rise of post-punk and other scene-dominating subgenres, to create something fresh while still referencing the past. Everything runs in circles and that includes us too. (See our upcoming music video to really get that pun!)”

Sunglass wearing, psych rock ‘n’ roll collective Waterpistol combine the celestial makeup of 90s shoegaze with the late 60s unfolding of folk, jazz and blues. Heavily percussive and generous when vocal duties are considered, Waterpistol’s high energy live show has been compared to watching a really entertaining version of the Manson family.

Looking to blend the tonalities of various eras of music, ‘Living in a dream‘ felt like a suitable debut single for the band.

Waterpistol is made up of Harry Watton – vocals, Rhea Padua – vocals, Aaron Tormey– guitar and vocals, Carwyn Whiteman – guitar and vocals, Emma Way – bass and Tommy Evans – drums.
