Bristol psych quartet Dreamwave have released their new single ‘Polystyrene Irene’. The track is full of psych-blues swagger and comes ahead of nationwide tour dates this autumn.
The track is a two minute power-rocket of snarling vocals and crunching blues fuzz-riffs, akin to The Black Angels or Ty Segall. ‘Polystyrene Irene’ showcases another string to Dreamwave’s bow as a band obsessed with neo-psychedelia and all its permutations – be it breakneck psych-punk, luxurious dream-pop or relentless motorik.
Discussing the single, guitarist/vocalist Ben Symonds said: “I was just feeling creative and had recently listened to Polythene Pam by The Beatles. My nan is called Irene and she’s a big character, loves smoking piggies – a real force of nature. I changed the title to polystyrene to rhyme with her name.”
‘Polystyrene Irene’ is Dreamwave’s first outing since the release of their debut EP Dreamwave and The Mindcave back in May, with the band receiving airplay from BBC Introducing and Radio X (John Kennedy). Throughout October and November, the band will be playing a handful of live shows, including performances in London, Bristol and Cardiff.
