NEWS: Maruja release new single ‘Break The Tension’ and tour across UK and Europe

Maruja have released their ferocious new single ‘Break The Tension’ as they continue their 40 date headline run across the UK and Europe, taking in London’s Village Underground on 14th November. With 4000 tickets already sold. The Manchester four piece have sold out multiple venues on the current run. Spawned from improvisation sessions in rehearsal, the single is perhaps the biggest statement from the band to date.  Foreboding and menacing from the outset, the single represents the feeling of powerlessness, felt by so many in today’s society. The band share that the lyrics:
“Delve into the darker side of the human psyche; the hunger of vengeance, the anxiousness of feeling trapped by your own narrative, or the loneliness of never being heard”  while the frantic and relentless instrumentation is designed to “take you down a wormhole to hell and back”.

2024 has been an incredible year so far for the band, whose visceral live show and genuinely unique blend of transcendent cosmic jazz, punk and harsh noise has built them a reputation as one of the most exciting live bands in the country, winning fans over at an extraordinary rate. To date, Maruja have released two EPs, debut Knocknarea, which ended 2023 as the No.1 rated EP on RateYourMusic, with Anthony Fantano including the release in his Top 3 EPs of the year. This year, the band released the follow up Connla’s Well, a 5 track collection that saw praise flooding in from BBC 6Music, NME, So Young, DIY and more. An unforgettable set for BBC Introducing at Glastonbury and a live session that tore the roof off Maida Vale studios for the BBC have only consolidated their status.
