Liverpool four-piece, Keyside, are front and centre of the burgeoning scene that is revitalising the city’s sound, with their buzz-worthy anthems, literate lyrics and breezy brand of guitar-driven pop. Weaving Street-smart jangle-indie from Liverpool’s inner-city streets with the stylish melancholy of modern bedroom pop, Keyside’s latest track ‘Runaway‘ is a slice of indie gold. It’s an anthem to the art of escape and is the first single from the band’s upcoming, second EP. Rich with buoyant, glimmering hooks the spellbinding harmonies soar as the riffs ripple into a multifaceted, magnetic sonic tapestry. It has all the hallmarks of a modern classic.
GIITTV are delighted to share Keyside’s superlative video for ‘Runaway‘ which, together with the mesmerizing melodies and emotionally literate lyrics, forms a spellbinding and stylish work of art. The video echoes the work of the revered Saul Bass, one of the greatest film title designers ever and was directed and drawn by Scott Duffey of Toucan Tango, a print based design studio in New Brighton. It’s stunning. Get your dopamine hit, be inspired and watch here:
‘Runaway’s euphoric release of intricate guitar lines and quietly aspirational lyricism drives Keyside’s momentum with uncontested echoes of classic songwriting from The La’s and The Smiths locked in. Frontman, vocalist and guitarist, Dan Parker, says:
“’Runaway’ is about how hard it can be for young people growing up in a difficult household. It’s about breaking free from pressures and the liberating effect of discovering life, what the world is really like and who you really are.“
With three tracks set to follow and complete their second EP with Modern Sky (The Coral,
The Lathums, Micheal Head) Runaway was completed in the company of producer, Chris Taylor (Courteeners, Blossoms) at Liverpool’s newest hit factory, Kempston Street Studios.
Determined that their visual legacy will match their sonic footprint, taking inspiration from the great sleeve designer/artist relationships like Buzzcocks and Malcolm Garret and 4AD and Vaughan Oliver, the distinctive artwork for ‘Runaway‘ maintains the band’s emergent, fertile creative partnership with Wirral-born creative studio, Toucan Tango
