Sunderland brothers Field Music have released their new single ‘The Waitress of St Louis’, taken from their upcoming album Limits of Language. The record, out in October, is their first album of new music for almost four years. For Peter and David Brewis, who have been leading the band since their debut in 2005, those years have been characterised by reevaluation, reimagining and recuperation.
Speaking on their new track Pete Brewis said: “‘The Waitress of St Louis’ is an ode to a lost place of sanctuary, Louis’ cafe in Sunderland, set to synthesised riffs, bouncing drums, and wiry guitars. Who or what is St Louis’? The possessive apostrophe because it had been established by grandpa Louis over 100 years ago, and the unofficial canonisation because it was our place of congregation and a source of faith (in humanity as well as excellent coffee). We were privileged to have a place like Louis’ in our lives but places like that rarely last a lifetime – we see them disappear, leaving us with photographs and memories, looking for somewhere else to go.”
With the album Limits of Language, Field Music continues with their astonishing, bloody-minded run of releases and in 2025 will look back on twenty years of the band. To celebrate, the band will be heading out on tour. Between 10 – 19 October 2024, they will play a number of in-store, local record shop gigs. Venues include Pie and Vinyl in Southsea, Vinyl Tap in Huddersfield, Piccadilly in Manchester, Reflex in Newcastle and Rough Trade East in London. Full record shop dates and tickets can be found here.
In February 2025 Field Music will embark on a small headline tour. Tickets can be found here.
