Today’s exclusive video of the week comes from Portland, Oregon dreampop band Tears Run Rings. ‘How Will We Know‘ is the third and final single from their upcoming album Everything In the End‘ out on September 6th on tastemaker label Shelflife Records (Radio Dept, Pinkshinyultrablast, Ocean Blue).
‘How Will We Know‘ is an intriguing and enveloping track, rich with detail, ethereal whisps of melody decorate this tapestry of shimmering and chiming reverb coated guitar licks, underpinned by a clicking beat. It’s layered elements of dream pop and shoegaze have echoes of early Cocteau Twins, the Cranes, and a more ethereal Beach House.
The band said, “This song almost got cut- it was re-written several times. The song started with layers of distinct, intermingling guitar lines and a pop beat. While the band was happy with the instrumentation, it was challenging to write a vocal melody over so many layers of competing lead lines. After many attempts, the song got one last chance when Laura spent an afternoon alone in the studio and finally solved the puzzle. Who knew that MORE layers were the answer?”
