Welsh wonders The Eggmen Whoooooo! continue whisking up eggs-cellent psych-pop with second single ‘Eggman Vs Hellboy ‘, the follow up to June debut, ‘I Don’t Care‘.
You can call them a supergroup if you like – featuring as they do members of El Goodo, Los Blancos and Trecco Beis. But surely, all quality groups are super?
Taken from forthcoming album Fuzzy Eggs, Please, the new song, out today, is 60s Nuggetsy garage rock blended with Big Star melody, the type that pulls you in and make you want to stay there, where it’s safe. Oh, and the obligatory banging fuzzy guitar solo. Recorded in Carmarthenshire with producer Thighpaulsandra (Spiritualized, Tim Burgess), ‘Eggman Vs Hellboy ‘ manages to be simultaneously witty and melancholic but strangely comforting at the same time. Maybe this is Eggmen Whoooooo!’s super power?
The video accompanying the song sees the ensemble live out their – and our – superhero fantasies, supermen and woman for sure – Benedict Frye, Gregg Boyle, Sheldon Advocaat, Thom Lett, Gwyn Ŵy and Sue Flay.
Benedict says of Eggman Vs Hellboy‘s lyrical realisation and acceptance of our own limits: “A slight twist on the eternal ‘I’m only human’ type of lyrical sentiment. Here the crux is slightly more extreme: I’m not a super hero, I’m just an Eggman Whoooooo!”
We are all Eggman Whoooooo!
Fuzzy Eggs, Please is released 25 October on Strangetown Records on vinyl, CD and digital formats.
