Rachel Love has releases her second solo album Lyra, which is a collection of electronic dream-pop tunes, ripe with compassion, melody and mystery that bring to mind the collage pop of the likes of Broadcast and Stereolab.
In the early 1980s, the teenage Rachel Bor as she was then known, was the guitarist and singer for Dolly Mixture, a post-punk Cambridge girl group, much-loved by John Peel. The trio wrote highly catchy pop songs that missed the mainstream but have been an influence over the years on everything from riot grrrl to indie pop.
The album is a result of Rachel dealing with the loss of her husband and musical collaborator Steve Lovell, an established record producer and one time musical director for Julian Cope.
The album features two of her sons, David Lovell on guitar and Syd Bor on Bass. Recorded at home and co-produced by Rachel and David, it’s a real family project which would have made Steve very proud.
“It has been an emotional but cathartic process for Rachel and has understandably inspired some sad songs, but with input from her son David it has become more of an upbeat album.”
‘Lyra’ is available on CD/Digital via Bandcamp, Spotify, Apple and pretty much most everywhere else. It is released via The Cat Collects.
The Cat Collects was established in 2023 by musician and artist Jodie Lowther. The first release was a popular compilation ‘The Cat Collects Seasons’ which featured seasonal themed tracks by Rachel Love, The Cleaners From Venus, 3am Again and Jodie Lowther. ‘Lyra’ is the second physical release on the label.
