Liverpool four-piece, Keyside, are front and centre of the burgeoning scene that is revitalising the city’s sound, with their festival-ready buzz-worthy anthems and breezy brand of guitar-driven indie that have lit up Liverpool’s O2 Academy and Manchester’s Albert Hall. Their latest single ‘Nikita‘ (on Modern Sky) juxtaposes the introspective nostalgia of their previous single ‘Turn Back he Time,‘ and sees Keyside leap back into the realm of upbeat indie pop with “Nikita‘ washed in hazy jangly riffs and lush psychedelic harmonies, it’s a stylish instant classic, dreamlike and elevated echoing Keyside’s signature sound. Nikita is the title track of their debut EP.
Penned by lead vocalist and songwriter Dan Parker it is a deeply personal narrative, drawn from his childhood experiences. The track delves into the emotional depths of abandonment fears, the struggles of feeling invisible and uncherished, and a yearning for connection reflecting the fragility of the human condition. ‘Nikita’ touches on universal themes of loneliness, the search for identity, and the human desire for connection, laced with emotionally literate lyrics and alluring arpeggio guitar melody, courtesy of Ben Cassidy’s vivid fretwork. Keyside’s buoyant pop anthems leave a magnetic, lasting impression
