Indie Legends The Farm have today released ‘Let The Music (Take Control),‘ the second single in a series of new releases, following the success of Feel The Love which was added to the playlist at BBC Radio 2.
Surging with propulsive riffs, buoyant hooks and lush harmonies, this bonafide banger bursts from the speakers shining like an instant classic; a vibrant mix of electronic sounds, inspired by Kraftwerk and brought to life by dynamic guitar riffs. The song was influenced by a live performance and chance meeting with the legendary guitarist, composer and producer Nile Rodgers.
The band’s lead guitarist Keith Mullin and singer and lyricist Peter Hooton had been to see Rodgers in Liverpool a few years ago. During the gig, Peter envisioned Rodgers as a prophet, standing on a podium leading a mass movement of people with the slogan Let The Music – Take Control and the masses were captivated, not by any political slogan but by the music, rhythm and melody.
“The idea came from politicians using meaningless phrases like ‘take back control’,” remembers Peter, “but I thought it should be ‘let the music take control’ because music is universal and can inspire, unite and change attitudes way more than politicians.”
Coincidentally, before the gig Keith had run into Rodgers and the pair had talked about their mutual love for the Fender Stratocaster. Known affectionately as the ‘hit maker’ by Rodgers, Keith wrote the riffs for The Farm hits ‘Groovy Train‘ and ‘All Together Now‘ on a Strat, just as he has for the new single ‘Let The Music (Take Control).’
Following its release in September 2023, the previous single ‘Feel The Love‘ was added to the BBC Radio 2 playlist, all BBC regional spot playlists, Gary Crowley on BBC Radio London and the Greatest Hits Radio playlist.
Alongside their continued live appearances, members of The Farm have been busy with individual and highly successful alternative careers. These include lecturing at Paul McCartney’s prestigious LIPA, writing a series of non-fiction books and sports documentaries, directing television documentaries and acclaimed feature films (one of them starring Bill Nighy), composing dance anthems and film scores, television scriptwriting and producing internationally renowned theatrically released films.
