Green Man festival founder and artist in her own right Jo Bartlett releases her new album Ghost Tapes 1 to 9, out 26th April 2024 on Indie Through The Looking Glass. Today we are debuting the beautiful video spliced together of archive imagery, for her woozy new single ‘Drawing A Line’ which is out this Friday the 26th of January, watch it below.
“‘Ghost Tapes 1 to 9’ is a very personal album.” says Jo, “The lyrics and themes all relate to either stories from my past or right up to my current day.”
Jo Bartlett says of this bleeping hazy and wistful pop single:
‘Drawing A Line’ is about that awful feeling which can wake me, blushing at an e mail I sent and regret or social media post I made and can’t wait to delete! When I finish recording new music, I always feel the need to share it with someone. Sometimes it makes me embarrassed as I feel like I’m forcing people to listen. It is an isolated process, particularly with this new solo material, and to have a friend listen (and hopefully love it!) can be very therapeutic – or very embarrassing – especially if they don’t reply.”
‘I think like most artists I’m very sensitive – especially when it comes to my own music. Recording this album on my own meant I had no one to high five when a track was finished. Desperate to share my excitement, I would often send friends finished recordings. If they hadn’t replied by the time I went to bed, I would start regretting it and for some reason feel foolish. Sometimes, I would actually wake up in the middle of the night blushing and wishing I hadn’t sent the e mail, or message. I would lie there in the dark, gather my thoughts and calm down. Knowing that the others sleeping in the house all love me and they are the people I love most in the world. They love me, for who I am – even though I can beat myself up thinking I must be a bit of a nutter to still be making music and still believe in it so much.’
