Indie rockers James announced their 18th studio album. Produced by Leo Abrahams (Jon Hopkins, Brian Eno, Jarvis Cocker, Imogen Heap and Regina Spektor) and mixed by Cenzo Townsend (Courteeners, The Specials, Everything Everything) Yummy will be released through Virgin Music on Friday 12th April 2024.
Titled ‘Is This Love’, the first single from the record is out now after being premiered by Jo Wiley last night on BBC Radio 2. Blending cutting edge synthetics with quintessential James anthemics, the euphoric track welcomes another era of James. The sweeping strings showcase a remarkable evolution from the band’s orchestral tour last year, highlighting Andy Diagram’s soaring trumpet, which radiates with brilliance. As potent as ever, Tim Booth’s lyrics delve into the intricacies of love – from pain to endurance. His compelling vocals that have soundtracked many lives seamlessly intertwine with Chloe Alper’s beautiful voice, creating a captivating synergy that elevates the entire musical experience.
With eight studio albums behind them since they reunited in 2007, James have been more prolific than ever and have truly gained their place as one of the most comercially and aristically – and most loved – alternative bands of their era. In celebration of their 40th anniversary last year, the band were honoured at the Ivor Novello Awards, where they received the PRS Music Icon Award. They followed the prestigious award with the release of their orchestral double album Be Opened By The Wonderful, which reached #3 in the UK album charts.
The album precedes the band’s previously announced UK arena tour in June, which will see them joined by special guests, Razorlight. Starting in Aberdeen on Monday 3rd, the eight date tour includes a stop at the new Co-op Live Arena in Manchester and comes to an end with a huge celebration at London’s O2 Arena on Saturday 15th, which will be the first time that the band have played the 20,000 capacity venue.
Tickets for the band’s arena tour are on sale now.
