Setting a high bar early on in 2024, Dana Gavanski returns with an unsettling and compelling new track, ‘How to Feel Uncomfortable’, a teaser for her forthcoming album Late Slap, out 5th April on Full Time Hobby.
Directed by the super-talented Ella Margolin, the accompanying video is both visceral and sensual. ‘How to Feel Uncomfortable’ flickers between mental turmoil and ecstasy as its potent visual metaphors come in staccato flashes. Music and imagery hang together brilliantly, creating a subtle, suburban horror story as Gavanski gazes with blackened screen-like eyes, trapped and isolated, grappling with demonic possession.
With this strong opening track, Late Slap promises to be Gavanski’s most striking work to date. Recorded with Mike Lindsay (TUNNG, Lump) it is “what its title suggests—a sudden jolt, a shock to the system that seeks to reconnect with the messy flesh-and-thought humanity of simply being human”.
