London synthpop band Magnetic Skies will share the new single ‘Suffocate’ on 2nd June via independent label, ReprinT Records. The track is accompanied by a visually striking black and white video which GIITTV are pleased to premiere today. Lead singer Simon Kent’s vocals are at the forefront of this track which is seeped in a sound reminiscent of 80’s dance electronica. . It is striking in its simplicity but perfect for the themes of ‘Suffocate‘. The editing adds to the intensity of the track’s atmosphere. The black and white is so crisp and sharp. Just take a look at the section with the glasses on, the effect is so strong yet seemingly effortless. Complex visuals are not always the best method for a video. Here the ever-encroaching hands on the face express everything, as the desire and desperation creep in. The imagination to create that final frame is just so smart, captivating the watcher as they see the title of this track beautifully visualised.
The band further explain the themes of the track ‘Suffocate’:
“The song is about a relationship that breaks down. At the start, everything is incredible and you throw yourself head-first into that and nothing else matters, you just want this dream to come true. Then things change, reality sets in and everything around that falls apart to devastating effect. We wanted a dark, agitated, claustrophobic video – devoid of colour – to complement the emotions in the song.“
Magnetic Skies debut album Empire Falling is set for release in autumn 2023.
