Irish post-punk quintet, Gurriers have just released their explosive second single, ‘Sign Of The Times.’ Arriving after their teeming, riotous live shows at The Great Escape festival, their latest single is a fierce growl of Irish punk, led by a stomping bassline that detonates with distorted guitars. Layered with raging vocals from lead singer Dan Hoff, the Great Escape audience were entranced by this track’s intense rhythm, rich with whip-smart gritty social commentary. In fact, some feared that the floor might cave in with all the jumping bodies at their last show.
Described as “raw as a butcher’s cut, and just as fresh” by the Irish Times, the band have been championed by Steve Lemacq on BBC 6 Music.
Speaking of the single, the band said: “Sign of the Times’ examines the human obsession with violence, and how we have all become desensitised to the horrors we witness online through the growth of social media.” Watch here:
Gurriers formed during the pandemic and emerged the other side with a debut gig on Halloween 2021 and have since become an important part of an increasingly renowned Irish scene. For the last two years they’ve honed their incendiary performances from local venues through European festival stages rapidly making a name for themselves in the process. Reverberating guitars, epic melodies and vocals bursting with self-confidence bind Gurriers’ songwriting into a mesmerising live tour de force.
With experience supporting acts like Enola Gay, Surf Curse, Been Stellar, and Goat Girl, their growing notoriety as an unmissable act has seen them tour the UK recently with Chappaqua Wrestling and Mary Wallopers as well as playing a whole host of upcoming festivals including London Calling in the Netherlands this weekend, 2000Trees, Latitude Festival, Electric Picnic and Pitchfork Music Festival London with more to be announced.
