NEWS: Joyeria share new single, ‘Performance Review’ and announces tour in support of Independent Venue Week

Speedy Wunderground’s Joyeria (pronounced Joy-a-ree-a) has just shared the latest single, “Performance Review” from his debut EP, FIM. Having just released FIM on vinyl last week, Joy has announced new January live dates in support of Independent Venue Week, including dates in London, Bristol, Falmoth and Margate.

FIM was released digitally in October to rave reviews and now fans of the artist can treat themselves to the EP on vinyl via Speedy Wunderground. If you are looking for a record that’s cinematic, edgy, wild, lavish, original, oozing with dark charm, pathos, warmth and bursts of frenetic energy then look no further than Joyeria‘s FIM.  here )

Joyeria’s FIM is what at happens when a Canadian spends his adult life patiently crafting his own path as a songwriter in London instead of following his heroes and peers in search of an assumed authenticity in Austin or Nashville. It’s what happens when a stubbornly solo artist finds a true collaborator in a producer like Speedy Wunderground’s Dan Carey. It’s what happens after a songwriter has worked hard for a long time in the dark, looking for lighting in a bottle- and finds it.

FIM firmly sees, Joyeria making his mark with indelible ink, making an authentic impression on the world with a Sharpie. Each track seems to layer the sound like brushstrokes in slanting directions like an abstract painting. Dan Carey‘s exuberant production recaptures and reinvigorates the essential weirdness of what united the early phases of fellow off-beat masters; a buoyant taste for the strange. It’s the sound of two collaborators working fast, wild and free with years of experience under their belts and exacting standards.

Joy says of the single“To be some over affected singer trying to show people how sad, or worse, how intelligent you are, or how much you know about anything is a fate worse than death. Most writers do this through mysticism, to hide in the cracks of their writing. I have been guilty of this myself at times and probably still am. To quote Hemingway, “There are many mysteries, but incompetence is not one of them” It is written as simply as I could write. I look around the room Performance Review creates (lyrically and sonically) and all the furniture is arranged just as it should be.  But don’t be mistaken, Performance Review is architecture, not interior design.

Joyeria made his live debut in summer last year and  has since played Brighton’s Mutations Festival, sold-out Brixton’s Windmill for the FIM EP launch show, plus the first international show at La Boule Noire in Paris as part of the Speedy Wunderground-curated Les In Rocks fest. His shows are fast becoming a must-see event, and he’s announced a number of UK dates this January including London’s Shacklewell Arms.
