Have Yourself a Merry Indie Christmas is a new charity album featuring two 54-track digital volumes with all proceeds to go to the charity Crisis which helps the homeless.
Put together by South Wales journalist Kevin McGrath. It features an exhaustive list of brilliant festive indie tunes from the likes of Swansea Sound, Dodgy, The Lilac Time, The Pop Guns, White Town, bis, Helen Love, Girl Ray, Tom Mason and many more. Since today is #BandcampFriday you can dig deep, buy this album, receive over 100 Christmas tunes, donate to a worthy charity and feel all warm and fuzzy in the process!
Kevin says: “Last year I curated V4Velindre, a fundraising album for the cancer hospital where I am currently an outpatient. The album was a success – raising £1,947.00 so far for the hospital, playing on 5 different continents and being labelled ‘a brilliant and lovingly compiled album’ by the Guardian’s John Harris. The album was named New Sound Wales’ Compilation Album of 2021.
Have Yourself A Merry Indie Christmas follows the same template. I have spent months listening to original Xmas songs from a diverse range of genres, including Indie, Singer-Songwriter, Folk, Americana, Surf-Rock, Psychedelia, Electronic, Punk & Post-Punk.
‘I had twin aims when embarking on Have Yourself a Merry Indie Christmas back in February – to raise as much money as possible for Crisis, because the work they do has never been more important, and to curate the best “Indie” Christmas compilation of all time, an album that people would want to make part of their Christmas for years to come. Believe it or not, I think I achieved that! Hopefully that means it will raise a good sum for a wonderful charity’.
A bit of a grand claim, but early reviews are backing me up. – Christmas Underground, the coolest arbiter of what constitutes great Xmas music on the planet, and whose strapline is ‘we are the war on Christmas music’ declared the album ‘The mega release of all Indie Christmas releases’.
It would be wonderful if you would consider helping to support a homeless person this Christmas by downloading Have Yourself A Merry Indie Christmas. Season’s Greetings, Kevin McGrath “
