Los Angeles-based Folk-Punk musician Sunny War has recently signed to revered label New West Records, who are based in Nashville, Tennessee, and Athens, Georgia, and are home to artists such as Caroline Rose, Drive-By Truckers, and Justin Townes Earle.
Sunny War has just announced details of her new album, Anarchist Gospel, which will be released through New West Records in February next year.
Produced by Andrija Tokic (Alabama Shakes, Hurray For The Riff Raff), Anarchist Gospel numbers amongst its guests, Jim James of My Morning Jacket, Allison Russell, David Rawlings, Jack Lawrence of the Raconteurs, Micah Nelson, John James Tourville of The Deslondes, Kyshona Armstrong, Dennis Crouch, and The School Zone Children’s Choir.
Speaking about the forthcoming album, Sunny War says, “I feel like there are two sides of me. One of them is very self-destructive, and the other is trying to work with that other half to keep things balanced.” This dichotomy is very much reflected in her name.
She adds, “Everybody is a beast just trying their hardest to be good. That’s what it is to be human. You’re not really good or bad. You’re just trying to stay in the middle of those two things all the time, and you’re probably doing a shitty job of it. That’s ok, because we’re all just monsters.”
The lead single from Anarchist Gospel is ‘No Reason’. Listen to it here:
