Björk has shared the title track from her new album Fossora, several days before the album is released into the world. The much-celebrated return of the charasmatic Icelandic songwriter, performer and actor has seen a flurry of releases and videos for other tracks on the album in recent weeks, with ‘Atopos‘, ‘Ovule’ and ‘Ancestress’ all shared as a preview to her 10th studio album.
Fossora is Björk’s first album in five years; 2017’s Utopia and comes out via One Little Independent Records. In recent interviews, she shared how the album had partly been inspired by the death of her mother in 2018. Two songs on the album, ‘Sorrowful Soil’ and ‘Ancestress’ are seen as direct tributes.
Previously, the eccentric artist had also suggested that the album was “.. for people who are making clubs at home in their living rooms.” The family links continue on Fossora with contribtuions on recordings from both son Sindri and daughter Doa. The album also features collaborations with Serpentwithfeet and Indonesian punk rockers Gabber Modus Operandi.
As yet, there are no signs of any tour dates to support the album, but Björk did tour Europe earlier in the year on her Orchestral tour; a spectacular re-imaging of some of her vast catalogue of classics, backed by an orchestra. Her only UK performance of this show was at Bluedot festival in Cheshire in July.
