Melin Melyn have shared their jaunty new single ‘Hold The Line’, taken from upcoming EP Happy Gathering, released on September 30th 2022.
Produced by Llŷr Pari and recorded and engineered by Tom Rees (Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard), ‘Hold The Line’ playfully stretches elements of surf & psychedelia and implants it with lead Gruff Glyn’s droll lyrics, that tackle the theme of bad customer service with rapier like wit and tons of hooks. For the surrealist video, the band once again team up with long time creative collaborator Edie Morris & George Morris. Watch it below.
Speaking on the track Gruff adds:
“I called a well known energy supplier that has recently gone into administration to get advice on my rocketing bills. I spoke to a lovely lady called Lisa. After a short chat, she asked me if I could Hold the Line for a few minutes. No problem, she promised she’d call me back. Whilst waiting, I wrote this song. She never called me back. And I promptly switched off the boiler.”
‘Hold The Line’ follows on from Nefoedd yr Adar, released earlier this summer and is part of the band’s second EP “Happy Gathering”, released digitally in September. The EP will be released on vinyl in early 2023.
The release of their debut EP Blomonj last summer saw Melin Melyn take up residence as part of the new Welsh wave. Since its release, the band have sold out London & Cardiff headline shows and having supported fellow countrymen Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard on their first UK tour.
A highlight of last year’s festival season with stints at EOTR & Green Man with more dates scheduled for the summer, including a return to Green Man.
