Canadian indie quintet, Alvvays, returned in a blaze of musical glory last month, delighting fans with a reminder of why they are one of the most exciting bands around. Following the dreamy hit, ‘Pharmacist,’ their latest single, ‘Easy On Your Own?’ is another thrilling, hypnotic taste of their third studio album, Blue Rev, due for release on 7th October via Transgressive. Awash with hazy, discordant riffs and soaring, euphoric melodies, this shoegaze anthem is brimming with heady guitars, psychedelic swirls and undulating distortion. You can imagine singing this at the top of your lungs with the windows open on your next road trip. Watch here:
The five-year wait since Alvvays’ second album, ‘Antisocialites,’ was worthwhile. New album ‘Blue Rev‘ doesn’t simply reassert what’s always been great about Alvvays but instead reimagines it. There are 14 songs on Blue Rev, making it not only the longest Alvvays album but also the most harmonically rich and lyrically provocative.
After winning the 2018 Juno Alternative Album of the Year with ‘Antisocialites,’ the celebrated sophomore record that confirmed the Toronto quintet’s status at the top of a new generation of whip-smart indie rock, Alvvays started work on their third album straight away, but were interrupted when singer-songwriter Molly Rankin had her recorder full of demos stolen. Soon afterwards, a basement flood ruined their gear and then there was the pandemic, but good things come to those who wait and their third album, Blue Rev, was recorded in 2021 in LA with Big Thief and War on Drugs producer, Shawn Everett. The highly anticipated album was well worth the wait with, ’14 songs hitting all the right chords and cementing their cult status.’
Alvvays will be touring North America this Autumn to celebrate ‘Blue Rev.’ They are also scheduled to play Courtney Barnett’s ‘Here and There Festival’ on 16th August. All dates are listed below.
Blue Rev is out on 7th October via Transgressive and can be pre-ordered here: Pre-order Blue Rev.
