NEWS: LOUD WOMEN FEST announces first wave including Chroma, Bugeye, deux furieuses, Lilith Ai, and more

LOUD WOMEN Fest taking place between the 2nd–3rd September at The Amersham Arms, in London, has announced the first wave of band announcements – including Bugeye, Chroma, deux furieuses, Lilith Ai, Charley Stone, I Doris, Killdren, Currls, Girlcrush, Hotwax, Fräulein, Muff, Snoozers, Queen Cult, Lambrini Girls, Pink Suits, Rabies Babies, and more to be confirmed. They say it’s “a who’s who of the DIY scene’s hottest new bands, that just happen to be powered by women or non-binary musicians.”

With the announcement comes news that the festival is partnering up with some key feminist organisers and activists, including:

  • Level Up – led by Janey Starling (who just scooped a Kerrang! Grassroots award), running bystander intervention training and campaigning on behalf of pregnant women in prisons
  • Safe Gigs for Women – a team of volunteers creating a safer environment for women at gigs and festivals
  • Girls Against – a nonprofit organisation standing up against sexual assault and misogyny in the live music scene
  • Alliance 4 Choice – a Northern Ireland abortion support campaign group

LW’s founder Cassie Fox says:

“LOUD WOMEN has always campaigned for better representation of women in the music industry – it’s all about building a strong platform and passing the mic to those who most need their voices amplified. There’s strength in numbers, so this year we’re using that platform also to amplify the voices of our sisters campaigning on important topics which are relevant to our audiences – e.g. access to abortion healthcare, keeping gigs safe from sexual assault, and protecting ourselves, our sisters (and not just our cisters) from state violence.”

* NB the festival has deliberately presented the names in alphabetical order here as LOUD WOMEN believe “headliners are bourgeois” – everyone on their lineup is billed equally.

About LOUD WOMEN:

LOUD WOMEN (LW) was founded in 2015 by musician Cassie Fox, to address the scarcity of opportunities for women musicians to play in grassroots music. Now grown into an international collective of organisers, writers and campaigners, LW has hosted to date over 150 events, showcasing the work of over 400 musicians. LW is proud to have hosted early gigs for bands such as Nova Twins, Big Joanie, Petrol Girls, and ARXX.
