The Besnard Lakes return soon with a new E.P …Are The Prayers For The Death Of Fame on FatCat Records, and have shared lead single ‘She’s an Icicle’ ; the band’s first new material since 2021’s …Are The Last Of The Great Thunderstorm Warnings. The new material was recorded during the same sessions as the album, but was considered to be a seperate project.
“The original had many parts strung together and it was all a bit goofy” say the band on the new single. “We eliminated most of the other parts and then Oggy said it was too boring, so we reworked one of the parts to make it less goofy and shoved it in the middle of the track.”
The song starts off sounding like it was beamed in from those early Spiritualized records – spaced out and in another realm – before morphing then into a more recognisable Besnard’s template. Jace Lasek’s falsetto glides over a sonic palette, creating a shimmering psychedelic encounter. There’s a shift in tempo that takes the track in altogether more urgent direction and the vocal harmonies almost burst through with an effervescent joy.
