XL recordings have announced the release of ‘Diamond Cut/Bby’, the new 12” from the duo Overmono. Out mid-November, you can listen to ‘Bby’ below.
Used as the closing track of their set at the Village Underground, ‘Bby’ is a brooding, stripped back floor filler, with 2-step beats and swathes of synths, housing a hooky vocal sample.
Over the course of the pandemic Overmono have undoubtedly risen to become the most sought-after dance act of 2021. Shows at festivals like Greenman, We Out Here, Field Day and Gala were all hailed as highlights, as was their sold out, packed-out headline show at Village Underground earlier this month. Their track ‘So U Kno’ was a summer anthem and their ‘Fabric Presents Overmono’ compilation and mix is being talked about.
Speaking on the release, the duo say: “For the past 4 years our studio has been in an old magazine printing building. after moving in we ripped up the carpets to expose this amazing wooden flooring and thought to ourselves – ‘why the fuck would anyone cover this up?’ – turns out ink from the old print presses that used to be there still comes up through the floor and makes these grimy swirling patterns that slowly shift over weeks and months.
Earlier this year we found out the building was being sold for re-development. We had two weeks to get out. Packing down the studio was left till the very last night and we spent the rest of the time making one last tune there. The chords in ‘Bby’ are those ink stains. Woozy and morphing, feeling like they might swallow you up.”
