NEWS: upcoming shows from Please Please You in York and Leeds

As the return of live music starts to gather further momentum, the York promoter Please Please You has announced details of their forthcoming programme of events. Recognising that not everyone is yet entirely comfortable at the prospect of going back into packed pubs and clubs to experience gigs, Please Please You has initially arranged a number of reduced capacity and ‘seated and socially distanced’ shows. These shows include the rather excellent London-based, Irish singer-songwriter Seamus Fogarty playing two gigs – first this Saturday in York and then the following Tuesday in Leeds –  and the equally tremendous Sheffield folkie Jim Ghedi, complete with his full band, appearing in York on the very same evening.

The pace cranks up significantly when the garage-rock band and local heroes Cowgirl take to The Crescent and Hyde Park Book Club stages on consecutive nights to coincide with the release of their eagerly awaited self-titled debut album. This then sets the scene for what is a cracking run of shows throughout September including appearances from Richard Dawson, Gwenifer Raymond, Robyn Hitchcock and John Smith plus many more great acts besides.

And that is all before we even get to October and beyond which will see Katy J. Pearson returning to York after her triumphant show at The Crescent back in June. Other artists performing locally that month include BC Camplight, the recently renamed Sea Power and BDRMM. Then there is also the A Slow Education festival, held over two days at The Crescent in York, with Yard Act, Warmduscher and Billy Nomates topping what is a really marvellous bill. It will come as no surprise to know that A Slow Education has long since sold out.

But tickets still remain for many of these forthcoming shows, the full details of which can be all found below.
