Shadowlark – the Leeds trio of Ellen Smith, James Warrender and Chris Quick – have today announced that their long-awaited debut album Avalanche will be released on 30th July this year and shared with us the record’s imperious title track.
The forthcoming album is the product of two years of sessions at Vada studios in the rural West Midlands, to where the band made regular trips from West Yorkshire, piecing together the record one song at a time.
The press release for the lead track from the album advises that the genesis of ‘Avalanche’ emerged when “Ellen Smith took in coverage following a terror attack in Europe. Distressed and quietly overwhelmed by the events playing out in front of her, ‘Avalanche’ deals with the tides of history, the events that shape us, the systems we’re born to and the agency we have, if any, to overcome them.”
