2020 has taken is toll on EVERYONE’S mental well-being, not least Jon Bennett from Mountaintop Junkshop, whose latest single, ‘Misadventureland‘ uses the sad story of Gus the polar bear to convey his own feelings of isolation.
Says Jon: “It’s essentially about a polar bear stuck in Central Park zoo going slowly mad in captivity – not dissimilar to my lockdown experience…”
Nonetheless, Misadventureland is one of the prettiest songs in the Mountaintop Junkshop canon to date, the string section giving it that extra emotional pull, which somehow makes the piece uplifting rather than depressing, despite its melancholy subject matter.
The trademark female/male vocal double up of Bennett and Amy Cooper is as effective as ever, and hey, who doesn’t love a video that features someone in a polar bear outfit reading and playing the guitar?
