Live music is making a long-awaited and most welcome return! Songs Under Skies, a series of six open-air acoustic concerts featuring some of York’s finest musical talent, has been scheduled for September and these shows will take place at the National Centre for Early Music (NCEM).
Since its inception in April 2000, the NCEM has established an excellent reputation for promoting a year-round series of jazz, world, folk and early music concerts as well as a thriving education programme. NCEM is located in the converted and extended, Grade I listed medieval church of St Margaret, Walmgate. The original building dates from the 12th century and an ornate Romanesque porch from that time still remains to this day.
The Songs Under Skies’ concerts – six in total – will be held in the garden of the church every Wednesday and Thursday evening from the 2nd to the 17th of September.
The gates will open at 6.30pm on each of these dates in readiness for a 7pm start; two acts will perform every evening, split by a half hour interval and with a finishing time of 8.30pm. In strict accordance with the government’s guidelines for the Coronavirus outbreak social distancing has to be observed and whilst masks must be worn inside the NCEM building itself, they will not be required in the garden.
