Stockport’s Rory Wynne releases new single ‘Roses’ this week via Blossoms‘ label Very Clever Records.
On his continued trajectory away from indie teen musings, and further into the brave new world of power synth-pop crackling with attitude, the singer, songwriter and producer shows a mature confidence here, striding towards the more anthemic, bursting with positivity and energy.
‘Roses‘ also brings with it an antidote to the isolation and frustration so many are going through during these weeks, as fellow musicians step forward to cover ‘Roses’ in a myriad of different styles.
Now, Rory is keen for others to join in by recording a version and send it to him via his Facebook page.
‘With everybody stuck at home, having new music to listen to and things to do the time goes by quicker,’ he says.
‘That’s how we came up with the idea for #cloneroses… learning the song and recording a cover will give you something to do for a couple of hours and the more people do it the more it will create a sense of community – and hopefully it inspires people who haven’t played or sung for a long time to give it a go too!’
Rory, championed and acclaimed by BBC Radio 1, BBC Introducing, Radio X, ITV, NME and more, played a headline show at new Liverpool venue Jimmy’s late last year, followed by 4 week residency in Manchester and looks forward to playing live once the pandemic is over and venues open doors once more.
‘Playing live is my favourite thing to do so of course I can’t wait to get back onstage and when the time is right I will plan something special for the return. But for now it’s most important to stay safe.’
