Lara Smiles shares the dazzling video for her new single ‘And It Hurts‘ exlusively with God Is In THe TV this week, also starring hotly tipped duo The Pearl Harts.
Taken from the London-based singer’s debut album All For You, the track deals with the realisation of being in an unhappy relationship, going through the process of denying that it’s not working and beginning to accept it.
That mix of conflicting emotions is reflected in the sound, a mixture of upbeat rock with dark synth and guitar hooks, fusing pure electronics and an almost grunge-like love of thunderous distortion. Lara is no stranger to messing with and defying genre definitions, having lent her vocal skills to projects as diverse as The Australian Pink Floyd and ambient house overlords The Orb.
Most recently she lent her powerful lungs to the closing track on the collaborative Jah Wobble/Youth album ‘Acid Punk Apocalypse’. “I’ve worked on other projects with them before over the last few years and I always enjoy working with them, they’re so talented,” Lara told us, “Hopefully we’ll be working on something else again soon.”
The promo for ‘And It Hurts’ was shot by Lara’s sister Hannah and stars the The Pearl Harts on backing duty. “I think they sound and look amazing so I was excited that they were up for being in it,” Lara says, adding that the film was shot in the beautiful 19th century Asylum Chapel in Peckham.
