Dutch duo Donna Blue are releasing their new single ‘Billy‘ with an accompanying video, which we are sharing today below. With twanging guitars, elegant percussion and garnished with 50’s melodies, ‘Billy‘ is a sumptuous tale of heartbreak drawn in Lynchian framing with a steakerish twist, while the videos storybook dinner table setting is the perfect visual accompaniment.
The band say about the song:
‘Billy’ is basically a song about l’amour fou gone wrong. It’s been a favourite of ours to perform live for a while, and we’re very happy it’s now out there as a recording. We love that it sounds like a sweet little 50’s heartbreak song at the start but ends like an eerie stalker-tragedy, making you wonder what happened to the person not picking up the phone.”
Donna Blue, a collaboration between Danique van Kesteren and Bart van Dalen, each other’s muse and band member, they have released two 7 inch EP’s so far, and previous single ‘Desert Lake’. One of the singles on those EP’s was ‘Sunset Blvd’, the song that was played by Elton John on his Rocket Hour radioshow on Apple Music.
Last year Donna Blue played at Reeperbahn festival and toured through Spain, which will be followed up with shows at SXSW, Austin and The New Colossus, New York this year. They recently played two shows at showcase festival Eurosonic.
