Last in Leeds in December 2018, the highly revered Los Angeles-based musician Julia Holter will make a most welcome return to the West Yorkshire city next June for what will be a world première when she joins considerable forces with her own band and the Chorus of Opera North to perform her new score for the seminal silent film The Passion of Joan of Arc.
Commissioned by Opera North Projects to score Danish film director Carl Theodor Dreyer’s 1928 classic movie – the image of lead actress Renée Jeanne Falconetti’s tear-stained face remains one of the most iconic in cinematic history – with her immense experimental vision, this event affords Julia Holter a fascinating opportunity to marry her huge creativity to this masterful biopic.
There will be a further performance at the Barbican, London on 27th June 2020.
These events are co-produced by the Barbican and the Brudenell Social Club.
