Today, we debut the new video ‘Shell Beach’ from The Mattson 2. Taken from their new Paradise record, ‘Shell Beach’ blends sun dappled guitars, glistening keys with jazz flecked chill-out percussion and threads it with floaty soulful vocals. Effortless and sumptuous, it’s the soundtrack to a trip to the seaside in the sun.
The duo say:
“This was our attempt at writing an R&B track. We still wanted to give it some sunshine but there’s some dark overtones of loss and longing in it. The dark clouds emitting from the nuclear power plant, backdropped on the sea shore metaphorically depict this contrast. We were thrilled at the chance to work with George Murphey and the rest of the team at Planet Ten. They have done stellar visualizer work for Tom Petty, Journey, as well as our A Love Supreme tour last Fall.”
Recorded under the basking sun, in their Cali wooden cabin home, The Mattson 2’s second effort on Toro y Moi’s Company Records sees them flipping their 15 year strong formula on it’s head by throwing vocals in alongside the shimmering, jazz-flecked riffs, the result landing somewhere during a post BBQ jam between Khruangbin, Drugdealer and George Benson.
