Some musicians age more gracefully than others. There are many hitmakers of yesteryear who have made a lifetime out of continuously ploughing the same furrow ad infinitum. Fair play to them, they have their fanbase and if it works for them, then it’s all good.
Eighties pop phenomenon Howard Jones, however, was never going to be one of those artists who lazily knocked half-arsed musical automatons of his previous self off a corporate production line, instead preferring lofty ambitions of quadrilogies and new directions over the comfort blanket of tried and tested former glories.
Howard’s latest sees him embracing a futuristic sound, while acknowledging some of the classiest icons of his heyday, so ‘Hero In Your Eyes‘ feels like the industrious electronica of Kraftwerk, combined with the commercial pop nous of, say, A-ha. There is, perhaps, a nod to his longstanding friends China Crisis in there too.
“Will I get through all this pain? I need the sound of hope, to believe again” sings Howard in his traditionally uplifting lyrical style. Well Howard, WE believe again, and we’re proud to premiere this excellent new track here on God Is In The Tv, so have a listen for yourselves.
