To celebrate the news, Smith has just released ‘Willy Moore’, the first song to be taken from his forthcoming album, Hummingbird.
Speaking about ‘Willy Moore’, which was recorded at fellow folk musician Sam Lakeman’s Somerset studio in March 2018, John Smith explains how the track came into being. “Collected in Harry Smith’s Anthology of American Folk Music, no-one knows who wrote it, but it’s probably from the early 20th century. I first heard this performed by the gentleman genius Wizz Jones. It’s a heart-breaking account of two young lovers’ tragedy.”
