Edinburgh’s Zed Penguin originally intended ‘The Source of My Dreams’ as an acapella track, but it clearly didn’t stay that way, and thank goodness, but honestly, based on this, it’s unimaginable. The video matches the music perfectly, with seven seconds of silence and a collage of moving images and effects is unsettling.
What follows this is a little over two-and-a-half minutes of a twisted soundscape, distorted to the max – even the images. Ethereal, dark, brooding, and slightly sinister in nature, the song, combined with the video, it creeps up on you, dragging you down with it. Zed Penguin are immensely talented, creative, and artistic in equal measure, and ‘The Source of My Dreams’ is a perfect representation of that.
The track is taken from their debut album, A Ghost, A Beast, due 23rd February on Song, By Toad Records. For more, check out their Bandcamp page.
